Pension 550 euros per month? - Study/ Fixed expenses of pensioners reach up to

Retirees face a fixed income that cannot easily change due to the fixed and limited pensions they receive, but on the other hand they also have fixed expenses that are even higher than the monthly pensions.

According to a study by "ALTAX", fixed expenses of pensioners include food expenses which are estimated at around 15,000 - 30,000 lek per month, depending on the standard of living and place of residence.

Expenses for medications, medical treatments, and doctor visits are necessary for retirees and can amount to a considerable amount. The likely amount is around 5,000 - 15,000 lek per month, depending on individual health needs and health insurance coverage.

Expenses for energy (electricity, heating) and other necessary services are estimated at around 5,000 - 10,000 lek per month, depending on housing conditions and energy usage.

Transportation for retirees can be another significant expense, especially for those who need to travel for health needs, public services or daily activities. The potential cost is around 2,000 - 5,000 lek per month.

Housing expenses, which include rent (if living in a rented house) or payments for home maintenance costs, are estimated at 10,000 - 20,000 lek per month, depending on the residence and the conditions of the house.

The total amount of fixed expenses for a pensioner is between 37,000 - 80,000 lek per month (depending on the factors mentioned).

The study concludes that for a dignified life for this category, a higher pension will be needed to ensure a satisfactory standard of living.

The pension, excluding rent, is suggested at around 45,000–55,000 lek per month for a retiree, covering food, energy, healthcare, and other expenses.

And about 60,000–70,000 lek per month for a pensioner who pays rent.

This pension will provide the opportunity to meet basic needs, but also to have opportunities for social and recreational activities, savings for emergencies, and active participation in social life.
