Dimal Basha elected Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo - Basha: Focus on the country's economic development and a sovereign state

After six months of political deadlock, the Kosovo Assembly has a new speaker. Deputies elected Dimal Basha with 73 votes in favor, 30 against and 3 abstentions.
This is his third term as an MP and the second time that his name has been proposed for Speaker of the Assembly by the Vetëvendosje Movement.
Avni Dehari, Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo:
"Honorable deputies, 73 deputies voted in favor, 30 against, and 3 abstentions. I note that the Assembly elected Deputy Dimal Basha as Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, and we wish him success."
Mr. Basha, during his speech in the Assembly, expressed that his focus will be on the development of the country's economic sector and on a Kosovo that is as independent as possible.
"This institution is the free voice of modern democracy. Our republic was built on countless sacrifices, on blood and toil. We have the confidence that we will work hard for the future of this country. We must be together for our causes such as economic development and the protection of the sovereignty of a unique Kosovo."
Basha has previously served on the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Legislation Committee, the KIA Oversight Committee, and the Stabilization and Association Committee, gathering considerable parliamentary experience.
