New Pediatrics Specialty/ Koçiu: Investments make perfect sense when they touch the most fragile lives!
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu, shared today on social networks images from the new facilities in the pediatric specialties at the "Mother Teresa University Hospital Center", where in addition to the new building, the genetics laboratory service has also been completed, another investment that aims to catch early diagnoses in young patients.
"Investments in health make perfect sense when they touch the most fragile lives, where the heart beats the strongest: our children," writes Koçiu.
Meanwhile, the head of the genetics laboratory service at the Pediatrics Department at QSUNT, Anila Babameto, stated that the laboratory activity consists of three laboratories: standard, numerical and structural cytogenetics.
"We perform karyotype analysis for chromosomal, numerical and structural anomalies, that is, for the diagnosis of these anomalies. Another important laboratory that we have built in recent years is that of molecular biology. In this laboratory we perform molecular diagnosis of the most common diseases in the Albanian population such as beta thalassemia and sickle cell anemia, as well as cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, but also the diagnosis of some rare genomic syndromes", emphasized Babameto.
