"Encouraging electronic payments, a key objective" - Governor Sejko, in Kosovo: The aim is also to increase financial inclusion
Integration in SEPA, the digital transformation of the banking system and the increase in financial inclusion were some of the main issues discussed at the conference organized by the Central Bank of Kosovo on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its establishment, which was also attended by the Governor of the Bank of Albania , Gent Sejko.
Governors of central banks and senior leaders of supervisory authorities from the entire region, as well as representatives of international financial institutions, were present at this conference.
During the third session of the conference, Sejko stated that the creation of a payment account with basic services for pensioners and other vulnerable categories has increased financial inclusion.
According to the Governor, digitalization has brought a significant relief in the field of payment systems. Since 2018, the Bank of Albania has increased efforts to increase financial inclusion and the use of electronic payments, through the National Strategy of Small Value Payments (2018-2023) and since 2021, with the Payment System Modernization Project of the Western Balkans.
At the end of his discussion, Governor Sejko emphasized that Albania's membership in the SEPA geographical area is a national priority, as it marks an important historical moment in the country's journey towards European integration. He added that Albania is the first country in the region, which sent the formal application to be admitted to this area. Currently, this application is being examined by the European Payments Council, as the administrator of the SEPA schemes, as well as by the European Commission.
