Albanians reach a record in fuel consumption - 569 thousand tons for 10 months, the highest level in 8 years
Excise revenues during the January-October period of this year reached a total of 48 billion ALL, or 4.5 billion ALL or 45 million euros more compared to the 10-month period of the previous year. This figure was generally achieved by the increase in the import of fuel, with about 2.4 billion ALL, while the amount consumed in the country was 31,608 tons more than the 10 months of last year.
In other words, Albanian citizens and foreign tourists have reached a record level of fuel consumption throughout this year, with a total amount of 568.8 thousand tons, the highest in at least the last 8 years.
The increase in consumption seems to be reflected in the high flow of tourists throughout this year, where a good part come with their own vehicles and the rest rent vehicles for the day.
Referring to the data from the General Directorate of Customs, the other excise items also have a very good performance in revenue, compared to the 10th month of 2023. Specifically, cigarettes have realized 1.7 million more revenue , gas 154 million ALL more, while other goods 228 million ALL more than the same period of the previous year.
The consumption of excise goods has also increased, specifically cigarettes 55 tons more, beer 6,984 tons more and coffee 249 tons more, thus reaching the highest historical levels.
The main factors in the realization of excise revenue are related to the increase in the amount of import, domestic production, but also consumption in the country, which comes not only because of the high flow of tourists but also the strengthening of the fight against informality, through rigorous control of excise subjects.
