Investigation into the mobile telephony market begins - The Competition Authority invites citizens to contribute
The Competition Authority has launched a preliminary investigation into the retail mobile services market in the country. The subjects of this investigation are the two operators in the national market: Vodafone Albania SHA and One Albania SHA, for the period from January 1, 2022 to July 25, 2025.
Within the framework of this investigation, the Competition Authority invites all citizens and users of mobile services to become part of the process by sharing their concerns, complaints or experiences regarding the quality of service, tariffs, transparency of offers or other practices that they consider problematic.
According to the Competition Authority, this investigation aims to protect the interests of Albanian consumers, by guaranteeing a free and competitive market, where each user has the opportunity to choose the service that suits them best, with quality and fair prices.
Citizens can appear in person at the Competition Authority or contact it electronically at the official email address.
This investigation is part of the Authority's commitment to ensuring a fair, open and competitive market, with high quality and reasonable prices, the Competition Authority said in a statement.
According to the latest data from the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP), referring to the first quarter of this year, the number of mobile service subscribers by SIM cards was around 3 million 254 thousand, which represents a decrease of 4.2% compared to the previous quarter, and a decrease of 12.3% compared to the first quarter of 2024. The number of active mobile phone users during the first quarter of 2025 reached around 2.4 million, which represents a decrease of around 2.2% compared to the last quarter of 2024 and a decrease of around 1.8% compared to the same period a year ago.
