Negotiations for the 'Green Agenda' in Brussels, Rama: We know there are challenges but there is no other way
Prime Minister Rama is in Brussels for the opening of the 4 chapters, where immediately after the meeting he is holding a conference together with the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and the Minister of European Affairs Marie Bjerre.
Both leaders expressed their gratitude for the country's progress in such a short time.
"This conference proves that enlargement is moving forward and showed that real reforms bring real results.
Albania has shown that it sees the future in Europe. We are not yet at the finish line, there is still a lot of work ahead of us, but today is a milestone. Denmark will do everything possible to move enlargement forward," said Bjerre.
While the High Commissioner praised the work of the government and emphasized that reforms are not easy.
"This is the fourth time that we open a group within my mandate, bringing the number of group chapters to 5 and 28 chapters opened. This is the result of the government's work. We know that the reforms we seek are not easy, but your country is showing that this can be done and that the EU rewards this positive change. Continue to involve the parliament, civil society and the private sector, especially in reforms such as the judiciary, corruption issues and minority rights. The moment we open all chapters, we will continue to close them, to fulfill your ambition to close them by 2027.
"Chapter 4 includes key areas such as green transition, environmental protection, clean energy, sustainable transport connectivity. The opening of today's chapters will help increase the quality of life for Albanian citizens," Kos emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister expressed his impatience for the opening of the final chapter, stating that citizens will no longer be denied their freedoms.
"We look forward to the opening of the last chapter, by the end of this year. We know there are challenges, but we also know there is no other way. This is the first time in history that we freely choose who we want to marry: the empire of values, security, rights. Finally, our citizens will be assured that their rights and freedoms will not be taken away by anyone who comes after them," said Rama.
