"Negotiations with the EU are progressing normally" - Hoxha: The EC is responding to questions from member states

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, stated today that there is no blockage or freeze in the negotiation process, but it is a process that is developing normally.
In a press conference, Hoxha gave an exhaustive explanation of the progress of the negotiation process with the European Union, considering the claims of blocking the process as part of political discourse.
"There is no blockage, no freeze. This is part of the dialogue and political discourse, but there is no such thing. There is a normal, rational, professional and very demanding process. It is more demanding for Albania than it has been for any country that has embarked on this path before," said Hoxha.
Meanwhile, the minister also clarified the allegations of lack of transparency, emphasizing that this has to do with Albania's negotiating positions.
"Albania has prepared its negotiating position for each opening of the group of chapters. This is a document drafted after consultations and very serious work, also in cooperation with the European Commission. In 2015, we adopted a law stipulating that the negotiating position is reserved. This has been respected and reserved information is not made public," explained Hoxha.
Continuing further, Hoxha emphasized that the European Commission has drafted the report which it has submitted to the Council.
"Different countries have different positions. It is absurd and has never happened that 27 member states receive a report on the state of a country and do not ask questions. This question period can last from 4 to 8 weeks. We are in exactly this process," said Hoxha, while announcing that the European Commission responds to the questions of the member states.
Hoxha emphasized that at this stage Albania is not around the negotiating table as it is only the EC that provides answers to those questions.
"We must understand the nature of the exercise, the time required and the fact that we are waiting," added the Albanian chief diplomat.
