In which regions were the most businesses opened? - Tirana leads strongly, Kukës in last place
The number of new businesses opened throughout 2024 has increased, reflecting the performance of the Albanian economy as well as the increased demand from both domestic consumers and foreign tourists.
The total number of businesses registered at the National Business Center results in 17,500 in 2024.
But in which circles were the most new entities opened?
Official data from the National Business Center shows that Tirana tops the list, as it is the capital of the country and has the highest population but also the highest consumer demand.
In the Tirana region, 9,158 new businesses have been registered, followed by the Durrës region with 1,899 businesses, and in third place is the Vlora region with 1,770 businesses.
The regions with the lowest number of registrations are Kukës with only 139 businesses, followed by Dibër Region with 158 businesses and Gjirokastër Region with 269 businesses.
Kukës and Gjirokastra have historically had a negative performance in this regard.
If we analyze the period 2019 - 2024, the number of registrations was highest during 2022 with 17,899 registrations, while the lowest number of registrations was in 2020, this was also influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic where a number of activities, especially those of services, were closed and the rest had a significant decrease.
As for the sectors in which they are distributed, the highest number of registrations is in the category "Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles."
In total, for 2024, there are 248,737 active businesses operating throughout Albania.
