More phones than people! - With 1.4 million users, TikTok is the most popular network in Albania
In Albania, there are more phones than people. With 2.4 million inhabitants and almost 4 million active mobile phones, digital connectivity seems to be gaining ground over everything else. On average, every Albanian has 1.65 phones, according to data from the website “DataReport” in its latest report on our country.
The report also includes statistics on social media usage in Albania, at a time when the government has approved a decision to shut down TikTok for a 12-month period. During this time, it will be possible to set filters on the network's content.
Although TikTok became popular in Albania and the region at the beginning of the pandemic, it currently has around 1.4 million users in the country, who in a few days will no longer have access to the platform for at least a year.
Meanwhile, other social networks such as Facebook and Instagram each have around 1.2 million users in Albania, nearly 200 thousand fewer than TikTok, although they have dominated the digital market since 2009.
As for the platform that until two years ago was known as Twitter, and which today bears the name "X" after being purchased by billionaire Elon Musk, it has around 200 thousand users in Albania, being the social network with the fewest users in the country, according to DataReport data.
