''On May 8th, the first flight from Vlora'' - Balluku: It will be the first test of the airport
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku announced today that on May 8, the first flight from Vlora International Airport will take place, which will be the first test of this airport.
"On May 8, in just a few days, we will have the first landing test on the 3.2 kilometer runway here in Vlora, leaving a few months, but within the summer season, to start official operations from Vlora Airport, the airport of all Albanians," said Balluku.
Also in her speech during a meeting in the city of Vlora focusing on the progress of strategic projects in the field of transport, where Prime Minister Edi Rama was also present, Balluku said that: Although Albania has 350 km of coastline on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, it was not part of international transport corridors nor recognized as an important logistics hub despite Albania's geographical location.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, in 2013 the Albanian government launched a reform to change everything and give a different value to the sea, to turn it from a dividing border into an energetic engine of the Albanian economy.
"The reform was established on several important pillars, starting from a clear functional division, the separation of ports with a commercial character or those with a tourist character to create specialization between these ports, efficiency and to be competitors in the international market. Another pillar of the strategy is integration into international networks and corridors. Albanian ports are no longer isolated points on the coast, but nodes closely connected to roads, railways, highway corridors, which are already recognized corridors from the stock of pan-European corridors, turning them into active nodes and essential parts of the Albanian economy and no longer isolated," Balluku added.
The construction and operationalization of Vlora Airport will create 1,200 jobs for all those people who want to work and contribute to the Civil Aviation sector.
