Over 10 thousand new employees in the first 6 months - Employment growth, economic challenge. Malaj: Positive progress
During the first half of 2025, the number of new employees has recorded a positive trend, reflecting the improvement of the labor market and stable economic developments. In a Facebook post, Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj announced that there are over 10,500 more new employees, compared to the period January-June 2024.
"The number of new employees resulted in a positive performance in the first half of 2025. The figures reported by the Tax Administration speak of 10,523 more new employees, compared to January-June 2024," Malaj writes.
Also, the number of unemployed people, according to INSTAT data for the first quarter, decreased by about 2,900 in the same period of 2024. Unemployment from 113,558 people in the first quarter of 2024 fell to 110,655 people in the same quarter of 2025. The largest number of unemployed people remains in the 15-29 age group, which represents 39.5 thousand people in the first quarter of 2025, although there is a slight decrease compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, with the data reported by the Tax Administration, as a six-month period, there are 10,523 more new employees compared to the same period last year.
But if individuals are employed outside Albania and no longer declare their status in the country, they are no longer listed as either employed or unemployed in Albania. New official population data showed that on January 1, 2025, 2.36 million people lived in the country, a decrease of 1.8% from the 2023 Census. According to experts, the increase in wages and the formalization of the labor market are having an effect on the increase in the number of employees.
