Citizens can follow buses in real time, seeing the entire route they travel from departure, stopping at stations, etc. Public transport in Tirana is now entering the digital age, bringing convenience in managing schedules, stopping at stations, and getting to know the routes for all citizens.
This important step towards the modernization of public transport comes as a result of the cooperation between atdalbania, GIZ Albania, and the Municipality of Tirana, who, with the support of their partners, have managed to successfully integrate GTFS-RT (General Transit Feed Specification in real time) data into digital public transport systems.
Public transport users in Tirana can now see in real time where buses are, better plan their journey and have accurate information on the arrival times of the lines. Even Google Transit has started using this data, bringing an easier and more accessible experience for everyone moving around the city.
In addition to the benefits for passengers, this data will also help manage service quality, allowing for the analysis and optimization of bus networks and schedules. This means less waiting, more efficiency and a transport system more suited to the needs of the city.
Also, work is being done to expand this technology to other cities across the country, with the aim of making public transportation in Albania more intelligent, more accessible, and more sustainable.
