Tourists buying gold in Albania - Britons and Germans attracted to high-karat gold
Not only to enjoy the country's beaches in the south or the beauties of the Albanian mountains, but also to buy various accessories made of gold, silver or other precious metals and stones in the country's jewelry stores.
"There is no doubt that recently there has been a high influx of tourists to Albania showing interest in the jewelry sector. Serm and gold are preferred, which belong to handicrafts that are more attractive to foreign tourists," says Sentila Kernaja, owner of a jewelry store in Tirana.
Not because it is cheaper, but in Albania the fact that the country's jewelers use 14 and 18 karat gold generally makes it more attractive to individuals who find it in lower karats in their countries.
"The reason why they prefer to buy here, mainly European countries, such as England or Germany that have lower karat gold, is because they prefer to get the higher karat that they find in Albania," Kernaja further explains.
The majority of tourists who come to buy gold in Albania are from Britain, Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. Meanwhile, in global markets, the value of gold continues to increase, as it is always seen as a safe asset.
