Albania-Israel agreement, weapons systems expected to be purchased/ Three contracts for helicopters, mortars and self-propelled systems
An Albania-Israel cooperation agreement on defense capabilities has been published in the Official Gazette. According to it, our side aims to strengthen the country's defense capabilities and deepen military cooperation to bring the Albanian defense capacity in line with the highest international standards.
The strategic partnership with Israel has initially materialized in three contracts that envisage the purchase of Israeli weapons, which will also be assembled by the Israelis themselves.
In the first agreement named ATMOS, otherwise Vehicle-Mounted Self-Commanding Weapon System, 155-millimeter mobile howitzers, with a caliber of 52, will be purchased. In the second agreement called SPEAR - mounted 120-millimeter mortar systems will be purchased and in the third agreement known as the "Quadcopter" System, which are a type of helicopters, it is foreseen that quadcopter products and systems will be assembled, excluding only the first 10 platforms.
This agreement is in implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed on June 26, 2023 in Tel Aviv, marking the beginning of a new strategic partnership in the field of defense. Through this agreement, the Ministry of Defense of Albania commits to integrate and develop new defense capabilities in the country, with the technical support and monitoring of the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
For the implementation of the agreement, it is envisaged to establish a bilateral Monitoring Committee that will periodically evaluate its progress.
