From October 7, Albania will be able to officially launch transfers through the SEPA system.

The European Payments Council has published the new version of the list of countries that are part of the SEPA geographical area. Albania, Serbia, North Macedonia and Moldova are added to the list, joining a number of countries from the European Union, the European Economic Area and other non-EU European countries.

Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Moldova will be fully operational on the same date, while Serbia will become part of the scheme from May 2026.

Currently, SEPA includes a total of 41 countries, of which 27 are European Union countries, 3 European Economic Area countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and 11 non-member countries including Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, the Vatican and the new countries included in 2025.

Also part of SEPA are several territories outside the EU, such as Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.

According to the document, Albanian institutions licensed by the Bank of Albania are authorized to participate in SEPA schemes.

This opens new opportunities for the integration of the Albanian financial market with the European one, improving the efficiency, costs and security of cross-border transfers in euros.
