When to invest money in government bonds in 2026? - The first quarter of the “boom” of emissions. 12-month bonds, the most common instrument

Albania will issue 174 billion lek of 12-month bonds next year. According to the Ministry of Finance's calendar, 12-month bonds will be the most issued instrument in 2026, followed by 2-year bonds.
Most of the securities will be issued in the first quarter of next year, while a lower level of issuance is expected during the summer season and the last months of the year. Specifically, January and March each hold a record of 45.5 billion lek of government securities, while the months with the lowest amount of treasury bills and bonds are September and December.
The 20-year bonds, which were first issued this year as a market test, will continue to be issued in 2026 with a value of 5 billion lek.
12-month bills, 3-year and 5-year bonds are the instruments that will be issued most frequently, in each month of the following year, while the instrument that will be issued least often is the 2.5-year bonds.
What does this data mean for people who want to invest in government securities?
Investors will have more opportunities to buy government bonds in the first quarter of the year, but this does not mean that they will have more profit. Although the supply will be high in January-March 2026, the profit will depend on interest rates, maturity and other factors.
To invest in treasury bills and bonds, citizens can participate directly in the Bank of Albania auctions or invest indirectly through investment funds, pension funds and other institutions authorized to invest in these instruments.
