Energy consumption increases in Kosovo - Energy operator calls for system load reduction

The Transmission System Operator and Electricity Market Operator License (KOSTT JSC) has announced that Kosovo's electricity system is facing a significant increase in electricity consumption during the winter season, especially during peak hours.
Compared to last year, consumption has increased by 14.33%, while the maximum load of 1468 MW was reached on December 18, in conditions when temperatures were not very low. This indicates that on colder days, consumption may increase even further. According to KOSTT, the highest demand for electricity is recorded in the intervals 16:00–20:00 and 22:00–23:00.
"In this context, the operator invites citizens, institutions and businesses to, according to their capabilities, undertake any practical action that helps reduce consumption and system load. This includes more careful use of electrical equipment, shifting consumption outside peak hours and using energy as efficiently as possible in general," the announcement states.
According to system data, the areas with the highest load in recent days are the substations Rahovec (including the Malisheva area), Prizren 1, Gjilan 1 and Lipjan. In these areas, increased care and cooperation of citizens are required to avoid overloads and maintain a stable supply of electricity.
KOSTT warns that operating the system under overload conditions may impose the implementation of controlled and temporary supply reductions, as a necessary technical measure to protect the critical assets of the electric power system, which ensure supply. In these cases, citizens are kindly instructed to remove electrical equipment from the network until supply is restored, in order to protect themselves and enable the fastest and safest possible restoration of normal supply.
