Spain and Greece give a boost to Albanian products/ How did exports and imports

During the first 11 months of 2025, Albania's foreign trade has shown a slight contraction. According to official data, exports reached 319.3 billion lek, with an annual decrease of 7.0%, while imports were recorded at 807.5 billion lek, marking a more moderate decrease of 1.0%, compared to the same period in 2024.

The European Union continues to be Albania's main trading partner. Although exports to EU countries fell by 5.2%, and imports by 1.4%, their share in foreign trade remains dominant.

At the country level, Italy maintains its first position as the main trading partner, despite the significant decline in Albanian exports to this market by 10.7% and a slight contraction in imports by 1.8%. Germany and Greece present a more positive picture. Exports to Germany increased by 2.3%, while to Greece by 6.7%, confirming the strengthening of trade relations with these economies.

A significant positive development is evident with Spain, where Albanian exports increased significantly by 23.6%, ranking this market as one of the most dynamic for 2025. Likewise, Turkey marks an increase in exports by 13.9%, although imports from this country have decreased by 12.5%, which suggests a relative improvement in the trade balance.

On the other hand, China remains an important source of imports, with a significant increase of 22.6%, while Albanian exports to this market have remained almost unchanged. Kosovo, as a strategic regional partner, marks a decrease in Albanian exports by 11.2%, but a slight increase in imports by 2.2%.

The year 2025 is characterized by a controlled slowdown in foreign trade, with differentiated movements according to partners. The increase in exports to several European markets and the gradual diversification of trading partners remain positive signals for the Albanian economy, while the main challenge remains to strengthen export capacities and reduce dependence on imports.
