New criteria for energy-impacting products - Aiming to save and reduce emissions, excluding vehicles

Every energy-related product must meet the requirements of eco-design, bear the CE marking and a declaration of conformity. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has issued a draft law for public consultation, which aims to increase the environmental sustainability of products, reduce their carbon footprint throughout their life cycle and guarantee their free movement in the internal market.
Obligations for manufacturers, importers and distributors will apply to any product that has a direct or indirect impact on energy consumption during use, while motor vehicles, or in other words, vehicles, are excluded.
Ecodesign requirements aim to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions throughout the product's life cycle, while setting environmental standards for products encourages manufacturers to develop more efficient and sustainable technologies.
According to the accompanying report, Albania currently lacks an integrated mechanism that forces energy-related products to meet environmental criteria before being placed on the market, while users have not had full and structured access to information on their environmental impact.
The implementation of this law is expected to bring about a reduction in energy consumption from energy-intensive products used in the residential and industrial sectors, a significant reduction in pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the country's climate objectives, as well as facilitating international trade and increasing competition.
