Accountants, essential role in EU integration - 25th anniversary of IKM/Digitalization and competition, new challenges of the sector

The accounting profession in the country faces new challenges such as digitalization, artificial intelligence and competition. At the conference marking the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Certified Accountants of Albania (IKM), emphasis was placed on the achievements, challenges, the importance of the accounting profession in the country's economic development, the fight against informality and the European integration process.
"We have increased the quality and services of accountants and have consolidated the position of the professional in current challenges. The accounting profession faces new challenges, digitalization, competition and the challenge of attracting young people to the profession. We have just signed a new cooperation agreement with an international organization that places Albanian accounting in a new position and new standards," said Dritan Fino, Chairman of the Board of BMP.
The conference emphasized the irreplaceable role of accountants in the process of Albania's integration into the European Union.
"The country is at a key moment in the European Union integration process, where harmonizing legislation with EU standards requires in-depth work and regional cooperation. Many laws require us to make them organic ourselves, and this is a process that requires the involvement of professionals," said Milva Ekonomi.
"Implementing reforms requires your professionalism and integrity. The trust you bring is what the economy, business and individuals need today, " emphasized Jorida Tabaku.
The conference marked a moment of reflection on the 25-year contribution of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, while participants underlined the need to increase professional standards, strengthen transparency and prepare professionals for an increasingly digitalized and EU-integrated market.
