Public transport compensation - Government approves decision, Karakaçi: 50 lek/liter reimbursement

The government has approved reimbursement for public transportation, which has been hit by the increase in fuel prices. After a government meeting, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Enea Karakaçi confirmed the 50 lek/liter subsidy measure, which will start in March.
"It is about a compensation of 50 lek per liter for all public transport companies of urban, intercity and suburban transport. And also, another good news that we again committed to in those meetings that we have had with all transport interest groups, is that we will start this subsidy measure in March, when we had the beginning of the effects of the crisis and in this sense we have fulfilled a commitment made with interest groups and according to the relevant agreement", - said Karakaçi.
Meanwhile, according to a report previously published by TV SCAN, the compensation measure cannot exceed the amount of fuel consumed in the same period in 2025.
In total, the financial effect of this measure is estimated at around 250 million lekë, which will be covered by the state budget reserve fund and the Tirana Municipality budget for urban lines in the capital. For the latter, the Municipal Council has already given its consent, which paved the way for approval in the government as well.
