Careers that start from school desks - Expert: Dual education is preparing generations closer to the job market

A new form of education offers a fruitful opportunity for the future, for young Albanians. Dual vocational education, a system that combines theory with practice, is expanding every year in the country's vocational schools.
In this model, students have the opportunity to gain concrete work experience during their years of study. This allows them not only to earn money, but also to have a more direct connection to the job market. But how do experts evaluate this opportunity?
"Whenever there is talk about dual education and it is actually something new in Albania, it has not always been done before, dual education gives young people from vocational schools the opportunity, among other things, to attend two days of school lessons and three days to be attached to a company. So they work while they are learning, and they have an easier connection from school to work. They are already engaged, they are earning money and gaining experience while they continue their education," says Gertjana Hasalla, Employment Expert.
The expert emphasizes that this approach could significantly reduce youth unemployment and increase the quality of the workforce in the country.
"What does it mean that someone who attends a vocational school for 1,2,3 years, has already worked during these years and enters the labor market again and can find an even better job because they have the experience. We are often asked how we can get experience while we continue our education, we need to get educated. Even while getting educated, it is possible that attachment to work can also be made. And this merging of education, what we get and the labor market becomes much easier," says the expert.
Dual education is currently being implemented in 16 vocational schools in Albania, with over 200 partner companies and around 400 students involved. The fields are diverse, from fashion, technology and green energy, to hospitality and tourism.
This model prepares young people for real work during their schooling, giving them the advantage of experience on their CV and often, a guaranteed job after graduation.
