Internet leads, landline phone is becoming history - AKEP: 694 thousand broadband subscribers. Internet and TV package gains ground

The number of Albanians using the internet from fixed networks is growing at a steady pace.
In the second quarter of 2025, the number of broadband subscribers reached 694 thousand, marking a steady increase compared to the previous year. This shows that the internet has become a basic service for most families and businesses, becoming the main means of communication and entertainment.
Most users, around 57%, choose only the internet, without additional packages. This group is growing strongly, with over 12% more than a year ago, which shows that consumers are seeing the internet as the main need, while other services are remaining in the background. On the other hand, 43% of subscribers use packages combined with television or telephone. Among them, the most preferred is the “Internet + TV” package, which is gaining ground, while packages that include fixed telephony are losing popularity.
In fact, landline telephony is experiencing a steady decline. The number of subscribers has dropped to 156 thousand, a decrease of over 7% compared to last year. This trend shows that landline telephony is losing its former role, as communication is now done through the internet, applications and mobile telephony.
Overall, the figures speak of a transformation of communication habits in Albania: the internet has become the main service, television is maintaining its place as part of digital packages, while landline telephones are gradually disappearing from use. This is a clear indication that the country is consolidating the digital age, where internet connectivity is the basis of every other service.
