Energy volumes increase on the Albanian Stock Exchange/ The 9-month period also marks an increase in prices, the value of transactions reached almost 159 million euros

Over 1.36 million mWh of energy was traded on the Albanian Electricity Exchange during the first 9 months of this year, with the value of transactions estimated at almost 159 million euros. According to the Day-Ahead Market data reported by ALPEX, the average price was recorded at around 118 euros/mWh, a price almost 18% higher than the first 9 months of last year. The data also show that there is an increase in the volume of energy traded on the exchange, compared to the period January - September 2024. According to data processed by TV SCAN, in the first 9 months of this year, almost 245 thousand mWh of energy were traded more than in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, ALPEX has also reported the figures for the Intraday Auction Market, which began operating in December last year. Thus, for the period January - September, a total volume of 10,715 mWh of electricity was traded on this ALPEX market, with an average clearing price of 155 euros/mWh.
The Albanian Electricity Exchange manages and operates the organized wholesale electricity market for the bidding zones of Albania and Kosovo.
Since its launch, ALPEX has faced a number of challenges in terms of increasing members and volumes traded through this mechanism. However, there are still challenges that need to be addressed. In this context, the functioning of the organized energy market through ALPEX for consumers will need to be facilitated, as this is one of the components of the 113.6 million euro loan that the Albanian government has received from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to support the second phase of the “Renewable Capacity and Green Development” program.
