Albanians trust the West, "ignore" the East/ Public opinion is clear: Away from Russia and China, we support the EU and NATO

Albanians continue to hold a distinctly pro-European stance. According to the 2025 Annual Survey for Albania, around 92% of citizens surveyed say they “tend to trust” the EU, placing it firmly at the top of the list of institutions and states analyzed. This level of trust is the highest among all international actors included in the survey.
The data shows that after the EU, the highest level of trust belongs to NATO with 89% and the United States of America with 88%. These percentages confirm the stable compatibility of Albanian opinion with Western partners, both in the security and political fields.
The United Nations (74%), the United Kingdom (65%), and Turkey (69%) enjoy varying levels of trust, but in no case do they come close to the record figures achieved by the EU. Albanians also have high trust in the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
In a landscape where the Western orientation of Albanians is unquestionable, three eastern actors Russia, China and the United Arab Emirates receive very different results in public trust. Although China is an important Albanian trade partner, more than half of Albanians tend not to trust this country. About 39% of Albanians surveyed say they trust it, while 54% do not trust it.
The United Arab Emirates has been creating a positive profile in Albania for years, especially through investments and large urban projects. However, the survey reveals a strong split in opinion: 48% tend to trust them, while 45% do not trust them.
The lowest perception of trust is recorded for the Russian Federation, where only 8% of citizens say they “tend to trust” this country, while 83% do not. This is not only a large gap, but a harsh assessment that reflects the public’s negative perception of Russian aggression in Ukraine, its political influence, and threats to European security.
