Floods, farmers will be compensated for damages - Salla: We will start recording. No one will be left without support

Bad weather and intense rainfall over the past few days have caused flooding in several municipalities in the country and significant economic damage to agricultural land, livestock, and businesses.
State institutions have been on standby to manage the situation in municipalities such as Saranda, Fier and Lezhë, Shkodër, and Korçë, while monitoring of the situation continues in other regions of the country where similar problems have emerged.
The Minister of Agriculture, together with the Minister of Defense, Mr. Prefect of Korça District, during the inspection in Maliq on Sunday evening, emphasized that after the end of this situation, work will begin to identify the damages on the ground. The assessments will focus particularly on the damages in the agricultural sector, including farmers, livestock keepers and affected entities.
"We are in the phase of closing the most urgent issues. We will then continue with the identification of any damage, ensuring that no farmer is left without the necessary support," said Minister Salla.
A World Bank study published in 2022 estimated a damage of $2.3 billion caused in the last 33 years in Albania due to floods, prompting serious investments in this sector.
Meanwhile, the total fund for managing flood protection and irrigation-drainage infrastructure for next year is 36 million euros, or 26.4% more than the previous year.
This fund envisages the rehabilitation and construction of 10 km of embankments on the main rivers for flood protection, the completion of the Orikum dam, and the maintenance of 27 dams across the country. On the other hand, it finances the improvement of drainage on over 60 thousand ha of agricultural land.
