IBAR, at the working group of ambassadors of EU countries - Gogu: Criminal Amnesty will happen, it is under assessment by the EC

In a statement to the media, Minister of Justice Toni Gogu stated that the process known as IBAR, the Intermediate Milestone Assessment Report, has now moved from the working group to the group of ambassadors of EU member states.
“In the last 18 months, 70 institutions have been coordinated and over eight thousand pages of documentation have been sent. IBAR is a process that has now moved from the working group to the group of ambassadors of member countries and shows that the process is moving forward, with factual and institutional support for each measure from our side. I believe that, at the end of the day, this report, which has assessed our measures, is related to the results that we want to see from the justice system going forward.”
According to Minister Gogu, the criminal amnesty is awaiting evaluation by the European Commission and then its discussion in parliament will begin.
"It is an instrument of our penal policy that was designed to address several issues, first of all the strengthening of human rights and this has to do with the situation we have with the population in prisons. It will definitely happen. We have been very careful that in the entire process we have of advancing the country towards membership, we examine the priorities according to importance. Amnesty is in parliament. After we have received the assessment of the 'Fundamentals', we will begin to deal with amnesty, with the attention it deserves. In the coming days, I believe that the discussion in parliament will begin."
In total, 447 prisoners are expected to benefit directly from the amnesty, while another 853 prisoners will have their sentences reduced. The Probation Service is amnestying 5,077 prisoners sentenced to alternative measures.
