AI is introduced into public procurement - Ibrahimaj: Technology will increase transparency and efficiency

Technology and artificial intelligence are expected to play a greater role in public procurement in Albania. The Centralized Purchasing Operator and the UNOPS Country Office for Albania and Kosovo have signed the agreement “Procuring together for European Albania”, with a focus on improving processes and strengthening institutional capacities.
Under the agreement, UNOPS will provide technical support for six months, assisting OBP in improving internal mechanisms and aligning practices with international standards.
The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, emphasized that digitalization is one of the main instruments for increasing transparency and fighting corruption.
According to her, the inclusion of artificial intelligence will enable the automation and improvement of processes, reducing costs and increasing the quality of public services.
Ibrahimaj announced that the objective is for artificial intelligence to be included in public procurement processes by the fall of next year, calling this an important step in transforming the system.
The collaboration with UNOPS also aims to develop strategic procurement and the use of innovative solutions, with the aim of strengthening integrity and accountability in the management of public funds.
UNOPS representatives assessed the agreement as a step towards more transparent and efficient processes, while technical support will focus on strengthening the OBP staff and improving the institution's performance.
