Protection of local farmers - Kosovo imposes anti-dumping measure against wheat seed from Serbia
Kosovo has imposed a temporary anti-dumping duty on the import of wheat seed for planting originating in Serbia. The acting Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, announced that she has signed the decision to impose an anti-dumping duty of 0.04 euros per kilogram.
According to Kusari-Lila, the decision was made after an investigation conducted by the Ministry and preliminary evidence that wheat seed was imported at dumping prices, causing damage to local producers.
"As Acting Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, today I signed the decision to impose a temporary anti-dumping duty of 0.04 euros per kilogram on the import of wheat seed for planting originating in Serbia," she declared.
Kusari-Lila emphasized that local producers will not be left defenseless in the face of competition that she considers unfair.
"Our market must be open, but also fair. We will use every legal instrument available to protect local production, competition and the economic interest of Kosovo," she wrote.
The imposition of this measure comes at a time when Kosovar farmers have been facing concerns over the low price of wheat. This year, the price of wheat in Kosovo has been reported to be around 15 to 18 cents per kilogram.
The new duty of 0.04 euros per kilogram means that for every ton of wheat seed imported from Serbia, an additional duty of 40 euros will be applied.
