Energy losses in the network drop to 15.91%/ 6-month period, OSSH: An improvement of 1.1% was recorded. Due to controls and investments

Losses in the electricity distribution network have continued their downward trend during the first half of the year. According to data published by the Distribution System Operator, the level of losses decreased to 15.91%, from 17% in the same period a year earlier, marking an improvement of 1.1%.
The data shows that this is the lowest level of losses reported in years for the January-June period. In 2024, losses amounted to 17.97%, while a year later they decreased to 17%, to reach 15.91% in the first half of this year.
The reduction of losses is usually related to investments in the distribution network, modernization of infrastructure, as well as measures to identify illegal connections and unauthorized interventions in the system. According to the OSSH, the achieved result comes from continuous work on the network, field controls and measures taken to reduce losses.
The loss indicator remains one of the main performance parameters of the distribution operator, as it directly affects the system costs and the efficiency of electricity supply. Technical losses are mainly related to the physical characteristics of the network and energy transmission, while non-technical losses include energy theft and issues related to metering and billing.
