Check-Up without age limit, new initiatives for the elderly - Advice line and Geriatrics, new package for the elderly
Citizens over the age of 70 are expected to be included for the first time in the national free Check-Up program. The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has proposed removing the upper age limit, while in parallel it has also introduced a series of new initiatives in support of the elderly, including the first Geriatrics service and the Elderly Advice Line.
"We have proposed to the Council of Ministers the removal of the upper age limit for free Check-Ups. Until now, the service was offered to the 35-70 age group. Every citizen over 35 years old, regardless of age, will be able to have a free Check-Up. This means that even citizens 70, 80 or 90 years old will have the same opportunity to have preventive check-ups, because health care has no age limit."
The Minister also announced that Albania will have a specialized Geriatrics service for the first time. This service will be launched at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center and will then be extended to other regions of the country, with the aim of improving healthcare for the elderly. During the meeting, Sala also focused on measures to strengthen hospital administration, emphasizing that administrative controls have been launched to ensure that healthcare personnel respect working hours throughout the country.
"For the first time, we are creating a dedicated advice line for the elderly, where they will be able to receive information, guidance and support for any health or social service they need. Our goal is that no elderly person is left without information and without access to public services."
The Minister also introduced the first Senior Citizens Advice Line, a new service that will provide senior citizens and their families with information, guidance and support for accessing health, social and other public services. The Senior Citizens Advice Line will be free and accessible at 08004042, while according to the Ministry of Health, these initiatives aim to expand access to services and improve the quality of life for senior citizens across the country.
