The Rrogozhinë-Vlorë railway, under rehabilitation - The tender for the design is opened. Line also from the new airport, in Vlora
The Albanian Railways has opened the tender for the study and design of the project for the rehabilitation of the Rrogozhinë - Vlorë line, as well as the design of the new line that will connect Vlora airport with the city.
According to the tender documents, the existing line Rrogozhinë-Vlorë with a length of 84.27 km, operates below the optimal capacity due to the outdated infrastructure and the need for deep improvements. Meanwhile, the construction of the Vlora airport creates a great opportunity for the economic and touristic development of the region.
For this reason, it is necessary to build a new railway line to connect the city of Vlora with this airport.
"This connection will guarantee efficient transport for passengers and will increase the attractiveness of the region for investment and tourism", - the tender documents say, among other things.
The company that will win the tender will have to design an implementation project for an electric railway line with a speed of up to 120 km/h. Also, the railway must be according to the standards of the UIC D4 category with a load of 22.5 tons per axle, and a longitudinal load of 8.0 t/m and the possibility of running trains with a length of 740 m (possibility of exchanging trains).
According to the Albanian Railways, the implementation of this project aims to provide a combined service of rail transport with air transport, facilitating the access of travelers to the airport in a faster, safer and more sustainable way.
Also, one of the main objectives is to increase the safety of movement for travelers, reducing the risk of accidents.
