Italy, €5,500 bonus for births in 2025 - Aims to boost population growth as

As part of the Budget Law for 2025, the Italian government has introduced a package of economic support designed for families with children born in 2025. The main objective of these measures is to encourage the number of births and support parents in the first years of their children's lives, a period often characterized by high costs and organizational difficulties.

In 2025, newborns in Italy will arrive in the world equipped with a substantial aid package of 5,500 euros. The figure can increase to over 7,000 euros in total if the baby has two or more brothers or sisters, i.e. in a family with three or more children.

These data represent a contribution aimed at supporting childbirth, while the decline in the number of births inevitably continues. According to Istat, there were 4,600 fewer newborns from January to July this year, compared to the same period in 2023; and approximately 200 thousand less (-34%) compared to 2008.

The total amount is the result of the accumulation of two measures created specifically for the first months of life, both in force in 2025. On the one hand, the first 15 months of the unique universal payment are included in the 5,500 euros. On the other hand, the total includes the payment of 1000 euros for new births, introduced with the new budget law for 2025, currently under approval by the Assembly.

The amount is equal to 330 million euros for the next year and 360 million for 2026.

The "new baby bonus", first introduced in 2003 by the Berlusconi government, was reintroduced in subsequent years until it was canceled in 2019. It will be added to the universal allowance for all children up to 21 years old.
