"Maximum preparedness for fires" - Rama: Three more firefighting

Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting at the Farka Air Base with firefighters and Civil Emergency troops, on the eve of the increased risk of fires due to high temperatures. During his speech, Rama stated that he has proposed to the Council of Ministers that all forces under the Ministry of Defense, engaged in firefighting operations, be immediately rewarded with an additional salary. He also called on municipalities to take the same measure for their personnel.

"I have proposed to the government that all forces belonging to the Ministry of Defense be rewarded immediately and not at the end with an extra salary. I also call on municipalities to do the same for their troops in the territory and to do it immediately, without waiting for the whole battle to end."

The head of government announced that drones will also be used in monitoring the territory, through a new system, while emphasizing that this year Albania enters the fire season with the largest capacities ever made available. According to Rama, four helicopters are currently on standby, a number that can be increased to six if necessary. Meanwhile, by the end of the year, three more firefighting aircraft are expected to be added to the air fleet, which will be the property of the Albanian state.

The Prime Minister also expressed Albania's readiness to provide assistance within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, if such support is required to cope with the fire situation in France and Spain.

"We have done it in the past thanks to you and we are ready to do it again if we are asked to provide our modest assistance within the framework of European Civil Protection Cooperation. We will respond if we are asked, as we have responded before when our neighbors have been in great trouble and as our European friends and neighbors have responded to us when we have been in the same trouble."

This year, the largest investment in recent years is planned for the modernization of the Fire Protection and Rescue Service, with the financing of 130 new firefighting vehicles from the state budget, as well as the construction of four new fire stations in Prrenjas, Mat, Patos and Mirditë. Meanwhile, the Normative Act of the State Budget has added 227.7 million lekë for this service.
