How did the labor market change in culture? Over 33 thousand employees, men and

The culture sector has continued to maintain an important role in the labor market in Albania during 2025. According to data published by INSTAT, based on the Labor Force Survey, over 33 thousand people over the age of 15 are employed in economic activities and professions related to culture. This number represents 3% of total employment in the country, marking an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to 2024.

Compared to two years ago, the sector has expanded its share in the labor market. In 2023, about 28 thousand people were employed in cultural activities, or 2.5% of total employment, while in 2024 this number increased to over 34 thousand people, representing 2.9% of employment. Although during 2025 the number of employees has suffered a slight decrease compared to the previous year, the share of the sector in total employment has increased, which shows that culture continues to maintain its importance in the Albanian economy.

Statistics also show that employment in culture is dominated by men. In 2025, they accounted for 62.8% of all employees in this sector, while women only 37.2%. Compared to 2024, when men represented 54.4% and women 45.6% of employment in culture, there is a significant increase in the participation of men by 8.4 percentage points and a corresponding decrease in the representation of women.

According to INSTAT, the representation of women in the cultural sector remains lower even in relation to the overall labor market. At the national level, women account for 37.2% of total employment in the economy, while in the cultural sector their share continues to be more limited, reflecting the gender differences that continue to exist in this field.

Another interesting indicator is related to the participation of young people. People aged 15–29 years old account for only 15.4% of total employment in the economy, but in the cultural sector they account for 25.1% of employees. This shows that cultural activities continue to be one of the areas where young people find more employment opportunities compared to other sectors of the economy.
