Phase III of the expansion of the Tirana-Durrës expressway / ARRSH opens the tender with a limit fund of 25.64 million euros
The Albanian Road Authority has announced the opening of the tender for the expansion of the Tirana-Durres expressway Phase III. The limit fund made available is estimated at 2 billion and 498 million lekë, or 25.64 million euros.
According to the document published in the Public Procurement Agency, the Albanian Road Authority, in the "Road Transport" program, has planned to finance the project with the object "Construction of the junction connecting the Laknas road with the project "Expansion of the Tirana-Durres highway".
The location of the project is proposed to be near the intersection of the Tirana-Durres highway and the Bylis Industrial Highway with the Coca Cola road. The area where this project is required to be implemented is an area with high industrial development. Meanwhile, the existing road, in addition to being in poor condition of the asphalt layers, does not have direct access to the main Tirana-Durres axis. Currently, the connection to this axis is realized through parallel roads, which are heavily trafficked most of the day, the document states.
The planned interventions aim to ease the movement of heavy traffic and create a comfortable infrastructure for the movement of vehicles in the area that is in the perspective of urban development. In the meantime, it is foreseen that overpasses and open tunnels will be built to ensure uninterrupted flow mobility.
Referring to the document, at the connection point of the existing Laknas road, it is required to realize a connecting junction with the road segment of the Tirana-Durres highway. Due to the category of the main road, it is envisaged that the new junction will be a junction at grade, which will ensure access of the road in question to the highway. The realization of the junction in question will ensure safe and fast access of the developing urban areas with the city of Tirana and Durres.
The opening of this tender comes after 2 procurement procedures last year for phases I and II of the project, which included the expansion of the highway in its first 5 km, starting just after passing the Kamza turn, to the Rinas overpass.
The works started in September last year and after the expansion of the highway, the permitted speed for vehicle traffic will be 90 - 140 km/h. According to the project, the highway will be added with 2 lanes in each direction of movement, bringing the total to 8 lanes.
The total cost for the intervention in the first 5 km reaches 3.44 billion lek or about 34.4 million euros, including VAT. According to official documents, the works in phases I and II are expected to last 19 months from the moment of signing the contract, which means that they will be completed in the spring of 2026.
However, the Albanian Road Authority aims to complete the works by the end of this year.
