What does the competitiveness initiative aim for? - Hackaj: We have identified

A roundtable discussion was held with participants from the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, in collaboration with the Institute for Cooperation and Development, where the focus was the competitiveness initiative as an important step for economic development, the deepening of the internal market, the promotion of sustainable growth etc. But what were the conclusions of this table?

"Today's meeting is taking place in the wake of the efforts being made by the Institute for Cooperation and Development, and as one of the conclusions of the Tirana connectivity forum, on the theme of Accession Before Membership. It means that Albania must participate in the policy-making of the European Union, before we become members. In the sense that we continue the negotiations, but in the meantime nothing prevents us from being more active, having more influence, participating in all the programs and projects that the EU has available from which we can benefit. The innovation that this event brought is that we do not see the Balkans and Albania in this case only as beneficiaries of EU funds and policies, but also as a net contributor to the competitiveness of the EU, its cohesion, but also its ability to withstand the blows that may come at such a geopolitically charged period."

But what are the points intended to be achieved through the competitiveness initiative?

"We are proud and honored that the Hungarian Presidency, one day before the informal Council of Ministers that is organized in Budapest, organized this event in Tirana, to get information from the base, from the region, about the contributions that this region can make in good of the European economy. We have identified sectors and activities where Balkan countries and companies can be positive actors, positive contributors to Europe's competitiveness. Starting with critical materials such as lithium, cobalt copper, etc. etc. continuing with clean energy, continuing with the transportation network. The Balkans is surrounded by member countries, so an improvement in transport regulates, lowers and costs, improves the access of EU countries, of EU businesses, to natural resources in the most diverse markets."

According to Hackaj, another important detail of the discussion at this table is the potential or opportunity that our countries have to participate in the value chain of European companies, offering potential industrial opportunities, manufacturing opportunities, etc.
