Emergencies, Minister Demo: Municipalities will have more financial flexibility

As part of the precautionary measures for managing civil emergencies during the winter season, the Minister of State for Local Government, Ervin Demo, participated in the joint meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs Albana Koçiu, the Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu, the prefects of the 12 regions and the heads of the main response structures in the field.
The meeting comes after situations of intense rainfall and localized flooding, where thanks to the rapid response of local structures, the damages were minimized. Minister Demo emphasized that the next phase requires not only coordination, but also a real strengthening of the capacities of municipalities, considering this essential for the efficient management of emergencies.
"We are giving more financial flexibility to municipalities, so that they have the opportunity to better manage human resources and carry out the necessary interventions in the territory as quickly and with as little bureaucracy as possible," Demo declared.
He also emphasized the reforms in progress, underlining that the government is undertaking several legal changes to increase control over the territory and strengthen the role of local structures in responding to emergencies.
"We are modernizing the way the prefect's law, municipal police, and territorial inspectorates (IMT) operate. These reforms will ensure not only more responsibility, but also more efficiency and accountability," the minister said.
Minister Demo concluded by emphasizing that strengthening local government and further professionalizing structures on the ground is the only way to guarantee effective response and protection of citizens in any emergency situation.
