Customs collects 142 billion lek in 7 months - an additional 5.1 billion lek, excise goods make the main contribution

Customs revenues have shown positive performance throughout this year. According to data from the General Directorate of Customs, for the period January-July 2026, approximately 142 billion lek were collected, marking an increase of approximately 5.1 billion lek, or 51 million euros, compared to the previous year.
Expressed in percentage terms, the growth results in 3.7%, compared to the same period in 2025.
According to the customs administration, this positive performance was mainly supported by the increase in revenues from customs duties, excise duties and VAT. Revenues from customs duties increased by around 482 million lekë, influenced, among other things, by the increase in revenues from imports of clothing, by around 109 million lekë, base metals by around 67 million lekë, as well as other categories of goods.
Excise duty has increased by about 1.5 billion lek, mainly due to the increase in cigarette imports, by about 1.2 billion lek more. This increase has also been accompanied by an increase in the quantity of imported cigarettes by about 100 tons. Domestically produced tobacco has also contributed with about 47 million lek, imported tobacco with 33 million lek, wine with 26 million lek and coffee with 25 million lek.
VAT revenues have increased by about 3.3 billion lek, with the main impact coming from imported fuel with 1.8 billion lek, clothing with 562 million lek, cigarettes with 447 million lek, etc.
The 7-month performance reflects a sustainable contribution of the main categories of goods to the realization of customs revenues during 2026, leading to the highest revenue figure in at least a decade.
