Discussions on the 2026 budget, Spiropali: Revitalization and strengthening of economic diplomacy

In 2026, the process of Albania's integration into the EU will enter its decisive chapter. This was stated by Minister Elisa Spiropali from the Parliamentary Committee for Europe and Foreign Affairs, where the draft budget for 2026 was presented. Next year, according to Spiropali, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has a historic mission ahead of it, to lead the largest diplomatic offensive in the history of Albanian diplomacy.
"We must give the seal of irreversibility to all the reforms that have brought us to the point we have reached. The mountain ahead of us is still high, but looking back, the slope we have climbed is even higher than the peak in front of us. We are not halfway there. We are near the end of it! For this reason, with a determined leadership, with an unwavering will and with more energy, we must work to do more, and to meet even faster with the inevitable objective of our European Passport", said Spiropali.
Spiropali added that the European passport is not a political slogan, but a concrete agenda that translates into concrete objectives: "Such as the complete elimination of movement restrictions for Albanian citizens in Europe. More study rights and work rights in every EU country. Foreign investments that create well-paid jobs, modernization of education and healthcare, innovation, technology, etc.," Spiropali declared.
The aim of our foreign policy, according to the Foreign Minister, is to consolidate the perception of Albania as a European, democratic country, consolidated in the well-functioning of institutions, respect for the law and human rights, and with sustainable economic and social development.
Secondly, the further factorization of the country as a reliable and consistent actor in its principled stances towards regional and global developments.
Third, the revitalization and strengthening of economic diplomacy, where our representations will be actively involved and engaged in economic and trade cooperation with strategic partners.
The Minister stated that "the new MEPJ budget for 2026 gives us the necessary capacities to rise to the height of our ambition and to quickly fulfill our political and strategic objectives."
The 2026 budget will also support the National Strategy of the Albanian Diaspora, the registration of the diaspora and the networking of professional groups in the diaspora, and the modernization of services dedicated to the diaspora.
A key focus in the work of the MEPJ for the coming year will be the opening of the diplomatic service to young people, especially the elite and young people in the diaspora.
