What does the draft budget foresee for floods? - 2.7 billion lek for river and embankment protection projects
Investments in flood protection infrastructure are projected to reach 2.7 billion lek by 2028, but which projects will receive interventions?
So far, around 580 million lek have been invested in 2024 and 2025, for flood protection and the rehabilitation of embankments.
Meanwhile, for the next three years, an investment of about 2 billion and 115 million lek is foreseen. In 2026, an investment of about 855 million lek is foreseen, while in 2027, about 620 million lek. With these investments, protection will be provided from the Kalasa River, Shushicë in Vranisht and Drashovë in Vlorë, the Vjosa River, Buna, Drin e Mat, etc.
Repairs will also be carried out to the protective embankment of the K17 Butrint Collector, the protective embankment of the Shkumbin River, and the Buna River. Meanwhile, in 2028, investments in flood protection facilities worth about 640 million lek are planned.
But which will be the hydropower plants that will be reconstructed?
Four dam reconstruction projects are in the process of continuing improvement since 2024, while the dams that continue to be reconstructed are those in Grethe, Synej, Orikum and Hamallaj.
While the total value from 2024 to 2028 is about 700 million lek. In 2026, investments of about 160 million lek are foreseen, in 2027 46,500 lek is foreseen. But in 2028, about 200 million lek investments are foreseen for the rehabilitation of hydropower plants.
