Socialists convincingly win 5 municipalities - Deep difference with independent

Vlora, Berat, Cerrik, Mati and Tepelena already have new mayors elected. The race was convincingly won by the Socialists, leaving behind by a large margin the independent candidates, who received the support of the opposition.

In total, 18.45% of voters out of about 334 thousand citizens who had the right to vote voted, an extremely low percentage.

Vlora, which was also the largest municipality to participate in these elections, had the lowest turnout, with only 12.54% of citizens going to the ballot boxes. With 15,672 votes, Brunilda Mersini, who was elected MP on May 11 and handed over her mandate to enter the local by-elections, was declared the winner. Mersini led the race by a wide margin, ahead of independent candidates Dionis Sota with 2,333 votes and Gjergji Nika with only 1,975 votes.

In the Municipality of Berat, Ervin Ceca of the Socialist Party won convincingly with 13,050 votes against his direct rival Pavlo Shkarpa who received 2,607. Ceca was the acting mayor of this municipality after the resignation of Ervin Demos.

In Cërrik, the socialist candidate Florenc Doka received 6201 votes while the independent candidate, Amarildo Hoxha, received 1888. Also in the race was Eligert Hima from Albania, Bëhet, with 1275 votes.

Mati had the highest percentage of participants, with 39.23%. The winner was declared the acting mayor of the municipality, Altin Bojni with 7425 votes, the second was the independent candidate, with the support of the opposition, Eduart Brahilika. The third was Suzana Pasha, an independent candidate with only 549 votes.
In Tepelena, Gramos Sako of the Socialists managed to get 3261 votes, while his rival Gabriel Guma received only 928 votes.

The elected mayors will lead the 5 municipalities for a term lasting 1 and a half years, until the local elections in the spring of 2027.
