Local elections in Kosovo - LVV and LDK win a total of 7 municipalities each

The final battle for local government in Kosovo concluded on Sunday with runoffs held in 18 municipalities. Over 32.5 percent of citizens exercised their right to vote, a declining turnout compared to the first round, where the figure was around 40%.
According to data from the Central Election Commission, the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) are leading with 7 municipalities each. They are followed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) with 6 municipalities, while the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has secured 5 municipalities.
The smallest parties that have managed to hold a municipality are the Social Democratic Initiative, the Turkish Party KDTP and the PDKRL. The Central Election Commission is expected to announce the final results after verifying the diaspora votes.
The runoff confirmed the new political map of municipal leadership. Only four municipalities with an Albanian majority will have new mayors after the local elections held on October 12 and the runoff on November 9. There is a change of power in South Mitrovica, Fushë Kosovë and Obiliq. In these municipalities, candidates from the Vetëvendosje Movement have won.
The leader of this party, Albin Kurti, said that the result is a great success, considering that all other entities, according to him, were against the LVV candidates.
Meanwhile, the Democratic League of Kosovo won in five municipalities yesterday: Pristina, Peja, Junik, Dragash and Viti. This party had also won two other municipalities in the first round of elections held on October 12.
The local elections took place at a time of political uncertainty at the central level, as the question of whether Kosovo will have a new government or go to early parliamentary elections remains open. This will be clarified by November 19, when the deadline for the LVV mandate holder, Glauk Konjufca, to form and present a government to the Assembly ends.
