Diaspora and investors, the new 'engine' of economic development - Katiaj and Alku: The bridge between foreign capital and elite tourism
The great potential it holds is turning Albania into a growing destination for foreign investments. In the studio of the GDP show on SCAN TV, Elisabeta Katia, Deputy President of the Chamber of Business for the Diaspora, and Neritan Alku, representative of the Albanian Diaspora Business Network in Italy, emphasized the importance of developing major projects in ports and airports, which are transforming the national infrastructure and connecting the country to international markets.
"Large international companies are expected to invest in Albania. The development plan is moving at faster pace than expected and here the changes are visible from the road when it goes to Porto Romano with the numerous transformations in the logistics structures, customs warehouses, rental warehouses, in investments in large areas of silos. There is a smart interest that is linked to Porto Romano and the entire journey that will have from this port, towards the transit economy for the Balkans, towards the entire line where the railway will be built, additional roads, etc. In our judgment and in what we see, Albania with Porto Romano, will be an added interest for at least the next 10 years, in addition to investment in the port. Also, there is investment in airports, no matter how national or international they may be, internal logistics needs these infrastructures, we have investments in tourist ports, which are in process, which bring movement of tourism of Lusca, bring interest of visitors in buying apartments and resorts of "luxury, and so tourism now has its own focus, because it has taken a successful path, " said Elisabeta Katia, deputy president of the Chamber of Business for the Diaspora.
Highlighting the increasingly important role of tourism, especially the project to build luxury resorts like the one on the island of Sazan, Katiaj says that this strategic project of 1.4 billion euros is expected to turn Albania into a center of elite tourism in the region. Meanwhile, Alku adds that the interest of foreigners to invest has increased, with recently Italian investors also bringing their capital to Albania, bringing the opportunity to implement an investment in Fier.
"A large Italian company will build one of the largest greenhouses in the Fier area, therefore our office provides information for this area, becoming a connecting bridge. We are also insisting on opening several employment agencies in Albania and the focus should be on information technology, but also training in several sectors" - said Neritan Alku, Representative of the Albanian Diaspora Business Network in Italy
The Albanian diaspora and foreign investors are showing increased interest in the real estate sector, technology and renewable energy. According to experts, the growth trend of Foreign Direct Investment, which in 2024 reached about 1.6 billion euros, shows improvement and confidence in the country's economic future.
