Details of the Albania-Kosovo-Croatia military agreement - Joint exercises, investments in technology and Euro-Atlantic integration
A few days ago, the Minister of Defense of Albania, Pirro Vengu, the Minister of Defense of Kosovo, Ejup Maqedonci, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia, Ivan Anushi, who is also the Minister of Defense, signed an agreement to deepen their cooperation in the field of defense. But what are the details of this agreement?
The Albanian Ministry of Defense has just published the full trilateral agreement, which aims to strengthen the defense capabilities of the three countries through increased investment in military technology, increased joint exercises, coordinated responses to hybrid threats, and support for Kosovo in its Euro-Atlantic integration.
Specifically, the agreement foresees the development and acquisition of defense capabilities to increase the readiness of our military forces. It will also invest in new military technologies and innovations.
On the other hand, the focus will also be on the education of military forces. Individual and collective education and training opportunities will be increased through the relevant military academies and colleges, in order to have a better strategic understanding of common threats and challenges. Bilateral or trilateral exercises are also expected to be strengthened, to ensure that forces are adequately prepared. Albania, Kosovo and Croatia will share expertise and best practices in recruiting, developing and retaining qualified personnel.
The agreements aim to take joint steps to counter hybrid threats, including cyber threats, disinformation campaigns, and malign foreign influence that could undermine national and regional security. The agreement also includes the exchange of information and intelligence services for situational awareness and strategic and operational coordination between defense institutions to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to the challenges facing our respective countries.
A stronger commitment is expected towards Kosovo for its full integration into regional security and defense initiatives. Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic perspective will also be supported by providing support for its status in NATO's Partnership for Peace.
All these efforts will be undertaken with the aim of enabling our countries to better withstand current threats, or those that may develop in the future.
