Tirana Bypass completes Milot-Fier highway - ARRSH opened tenders, 7 km are part of the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor
The opening of the tender procedure for the construction of the Tirana Bypass by the Albanian Road Authority marks the completion of all segments of the Milot-Fier axis, part of the Adriatic-Ionian Highway. This is because one of the lots of this highway includes a part of this bypass.
The construction of the Milot-Fier Motorway, one of the most important road infrastructure projects in the country, is progressing at different paces in its five lots. With a total length of 114 kilometers, this highway is part of the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor and includes the connection of a number of segments, which are currently in various stages of construction or tendering.
The most advanced segment is the Thumanë–Kashar segment, with a length of 21 kilometers, where the works have been completed and it is open to vehicle traffic. Meanwhile, the other three segments: Milot – Thumanë, Kashar – Lekaj and Lekaj – Fier are also contracted for construction and the companies are in the process of securing permits to start the works. All four of these segments will be implemented through concession contracts.
The case of the Tirana bypass is different, which will be built with direct funding from the state budget. This bypass will have a total length of 21.6 kilometers, of which 7 kilometers coincide with the Kashar - Lekaj section. This common part will not be built by the concessionaire of the segment, but by the company that will carry out the works for the Tirana bypass. As a result, the total track that this segment will include reaches 33.6 kilometers, but only a part of it is the subject of the concession contract. For the construction of the Tirana bypass, ARRSH opened two tender procedures a few days ago, with a total fund limit of 6 billion lek. These are the first and second phases of the construction of the Kashar - Vaqarr Interchange segment, which represents a part of the bypass route.
