Tirana Bypass, contract signed - Construction of the first lot will cost 3.15 billion lekë, the way is opened for the start of works
The Albanian Road Authority has signed the contract for the first phase of the Tirana bypass, paving the way for the start of works. The contract with the company 4 AM has a value of 3.15 billion lek including VAT, and foresees the construction of a segment of about 4.5 km. For this road project, the ARRSH has also announced the winning company for lot II, a contract that is expected to be signed with the merger of the operators “Elmazaj Konstruksion” & “INC SPA”.
The total length of the Tirana bypass is 21.6 kilometers, and it is considered one of the most important road projects in the country, as it aims to directly connect the Durrës - Tirana highway with the Tirana - Elbasan highway, avoiding entering the capital.
Although full completion will require tendering for the rest of the road, the construction of the Kashar to Vaqarr segment, which includes lots I and II, will mark the completion of all segments of the Milot–Fier axis, part of the Adriatic–Ionian Highway. This is because one of the lots of this highway (Kashar – Lekaj) also includes 7 of the 8.5 kilometers tendered for the bypass.
Beyond the impact on traffic, the bypass is also expected to bring environmental and urban benefits. This is because, by avoiding the passage of heavy traffic through Tirana, it is expected to significantly reduce pollution, internal traffic, and accidents on the capital's urban roads.
