Tirana Bypass, tender ready for phase III - Road connecting two highways, fund

The Albanian Road Authority has prepared the tender for the third phase of the construction of the Tirana bypass. According to data published by the Public Procurement Agency, the limit fund will be 2.5 billion lekë, while details on the length of this lot will be made public at the moment of opening the procurement procedure.

For this infrastructure project, work has already begun on phases I and II, after 2 contracts with a total value of 5.9 billion lek were signed in 2025.

The Tirana Bypass is one of the most important road projects in the country, as it aims to directly connect the Durrës - Tirana highway with the Tirana - Elbasan highway, avoiding the entrance to the capital.

With a length of 21.6 kilometers, this road will cross the southern, southwestern and western parts of Tirana, starting near the City Park Shopping Center in Kashar and ending in Mullet, at the intersection with the Tirana - Elbasan highway. The route will have two lanes in each direction, a width of 10.5 meters and will allow speeds of up to 120 km/h.

The road will pass through a plain and hilly terrain, including extensive technical interventions such as double bridges over the Erzen River, construction of a new tunnel in Rrogozhina, and the installation of three junctions. The route of the road crosses agricultural areas, including the villages of Allgjatë, Picallë and Stërmas.

Beyond the impact on traffic, the bypass is also expected to bring environmental and urban benefits. This is because, by avoiding the passage of heavy traffic through Tirana, it is expected to significantly reduce pollution, internal traffic, and accidents on the capital's urban roads.
