"Loyalty to the EU is never in doubt" - Rama: I hope that member states will also agree on membership
With clear messages of cooperation, the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, participated in the 20th edition of the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia. Invited to the discussions, the head of government said that Albania's loyalty to the principles of the European Union will always be present on its path towards the EU.
“It’s very complicated, but I want to say that when I talk about my country, things are very different. For example, the Slovenian prime minister would say what he thought about Brussels, because he had something to lose, and we didn’t. So we have to be very open, but beyond what we say, our loyalty is never questioned. As Europeans, we should be free to express our opinions, but when we follow Europe, we do it 100%. We have never questioned that when we talk about loyalty, we are firm and we say: ‘We are with you until the end.’”
Asked by moderator Stjepan Oresković, entrepreneur and president of IEDC Bled, about what Albania can offer the European Union, Rama replied that most member states want a stronger Union.
"I can say that Europe is like a patient with 27 doctors. All those who are part of the EU should be happy, because the Union should be bigger. Pathologists should specialize in different parts, to have a complete Union that takes care of the patient's entire organism."
The Prime Minister added that Europe is the largest bureaucratic and administrative machine, which is a good thing, but excessive drafting of regulations makes business development more difficult.
